With Six Weeks Remaining Before the 2026 Midterm Elections Polls and Projections Favor Democratic Takeover in Both Chambers
Overview
With six weeks from yesterday remaining before election Tuesday on November 3, 2026, a review of seven different election tracking sites all forecast Democratic victories large enough to take control of the majority in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. While the outcome varies in terms of the overall number of seats gained by the Democrats, and therefore the size of their potential majority in each chamber, the consensus at this time is that of the thirty-five Senate seats up for election (33 seats in cycle and two special election seats) and the full four hundred and thirty-five seats to be decided in the House, the key races boil down to five Senate seats and twenty House seats.
As CSPEN announced during last week’s CSPEN Federal Legislative & Regulatory Update webinar, CSPEN has once again developed a document to assist the higher education community in not only tracking the polling, prediction, and outcome of the key races of interest to the pundits, but one which also pays particular attention to the impact of each of the full slate of Senate races and largest number ever of House races which will affect the membership of the three Committees most important to higher education (Education, Veterans’ Affairs and Appropriations).
