Photo of CSPEN 2024 ELECTION UPDATE: Final Senate Race Declared, While A Few House Seats Still Remain Yet to Be Determined

All Thirty-Four Senate Races Have Been Decided, Only Three House Races Remain To Be Determined

Late last week, while the CSPEN Board of Directors was having its annual strategic budget and planning meeting, Senator Bob Casey (D) officially conceded the Pennsylvania Senate race between the challenger Dave McCormick (R). With the concession, the GOP picked up a total of four seats in the 2024 Elections and with it, majority control of the U.S. Senate for the 119th Congress.

Meanwhile, of the four-hundred and thirty-five seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, only two to three races have yet to be determined – depending upon which election resource you look to for the results. Of the three potential remaining races, two are races in California and one is a race in Iowa. And coincidentally, two of the three have a potential impact on membership on committees of interest to the higher education community.

The three races in play are:

California
13th District – Incumbent Rep. John Duarte (R) leads challenger Adam Gray by 204 votes with 99% of the votes tallied.
45th District – Challenger Derek Tran (D) leads incumbent Rep. Michells Steel by 545 votes with 99% of the voted tallied.

Iowa
1st District – Incumbent Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R) leads challenger Christina Bohanna by 798 votes with 99% of the votes tallied.*
(*Note — Some election tracking groups have already declared/called this race for Rep. Miller-Meeks and have been reflected as a win for Rep. Miller-Meeks in our Committee tracking.)
