CSPEN is honored to announce the addition of Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education David Barker as our special guest speaker on Wednesday morning August 12.
On behalf of the Trump Administration and the U.S. Department of Education Assistant Secretary Barker has agreed to provide our community with an update on the very latest developments and initiatives taking place in higher education and engage those in attendance through an open question and answer session.
During this casual conversation the Assistant Secretary has committed to providing an overview of the Administration’s priorities, and is prepared to respond to questions and provide updates as well on implementation of the OBBB/WFTCA final regulations, the status of the Accreditation, Innovation, and Modernization regulations, and key initiatives related to Student Loan Repayment and Fraud Prevention.

Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education David Barker
David Barker is a sixth-generation Iowan with deep experience in higher education policy and governance. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago and has taught economics at both the University of Chicago and the University of Iowa. He served for six years on the Iowa Board of Regents, which oversees the state’s public universities, where he played a key role in advancing cost control measures and promoting academic freedom. He also managed several businesses until he was sworn in as Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education on October 20, 2025.
