As previously shared on prior CSPEN emails and on last week’s CSPEN Federal Legislative & Regulatory Update webinar, the Department had shared with us that new, additional information and guidance from the Department was imminent.
Today the Department published the anticipated update, which will not be the last.

Below is the key summary provided in the posting the Department released about an hour or so ago.
Update Published Today
Data for the 2026 Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment (FVT/GE) reporting cycle was due on Oct. 1, 2026. The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has determined that more than 1,000 institutions failed to meet this reporting deadline and are now considered delinquent. These institutions have until Friday, Jan. 15, 2027, to submit the required data for the 2026 FVT/GE reporting cycle. Alternatively, institutions may choose to implement the Student Tuition and Transparency System (STATS) reporting requirements for the 2026 reporting cycle, which will reduce their reporting burden. Institutions are not required to submit a statement to the Secretary, per 34 CFR 668.408(b)(2), if they report all required data by this deadline.
Additionally, ED’s data indicates that nearly 1,400 institutions remain delinquent on reporting requirements for the 2024 and 2025 FVT/GE reporting cycles. ED reminds institutions that they have until Friday, Jan. 15, 2027, to submit any unreported or underreported FVT/GE data from the 2024 and 2025 reporting cycles. Institutions may also revise or correct previously submitted FVT/GE data until Jan. 15, 2027, and they will not be required to submit a statement to the Secretary, per 34 CFR 668.408(b)(2), if all required data are submitted by this deadline.
ED will offer a series of new FVT/GE and STATS-related training sessions this fall as part of its ongoing effort to assist institutions in meeting their reporting requirements. Details about the training sessions are described in the Oct. 8, 2026, Training Announcement. The sessions will address frequently asked questions about FVT/GE and STATS, and ED strongly encourages institutions with delinquent submissions to attend.
In summary, ED is providing institutions with one final extension to submit FVT/GE reporting for the 2024, 2025, and 2026 cycles, with all required data now due by Friday, Jan. 15, 2027. This follows multiple extensions for the 2024 and 2025 reporting cycles. Institutions may also revise or correct previously submitted FVT/GE data through Jan. 15, 2027, without being classified as delinquent. Institutions can use the spreadsheet below to identify the specific file components they are currently missing.
ED will not grant further extensions to submit data for the 2024, 2025, or 2026 reporting cycles. All institutions missing one or more data files for these reporting cycles are encouraged to submit required FVT/GE data as soon as possible, but no later than Jan. 15, 2027. We will consider taking action against institutions that fail to submit all required FVT/GE data by the deadline. This may include heightened cash monitoring, fines, sanctions, or other actions.
