APB:
Be On the Lookout For Imminent Research Report Measuring Earnings Growth By Field Of Study Five Years After Completion & Additional Research Yet to Come At CSPEN’s 7th Annual Higher Education Policy Meeting
Overview
Attendees at CSPEN’s Annual Conference were the first group to view initial data developed by The Urban Institute that examines how earnings change after graduates complete their credentials, using new data from the College Scorecard showing earnings up to five years after completion.
During a General Session at the CSPEN Annual Conference, Jason Delisle, Nonresident Senior Fellow, Center on Education Data and Policy, shared with our community that The Urban Institute’s research report assess which fields of study show the most and least change and focus on fields where a high share of programs have low initial earnings and are likely to fail earnings-based accountability tests.
The Research Report was supported by CSPEN and Arnold Ventures as an attempt to provide real data to inform the myriad of legislative and regulatory proposals which seek to assess the amount of debt students take on to enroll in specific programs across all sectors of higher education and what individuals can expect to earn after completion of their education.
The first research report will be published before the end of this year, with additional research to follow being published in 2025.
Release of the First Research Report Is Imminent
This important new research report, entitled Measuring Earnings Growth by Field of Study to Inform Higher Education Policy: New College Scorecard Data Reports Earnings up to Five Years after Completion, is the first report to provide this data and assessment of what it means to the public – and the findings are truly enlightening.
CSPEN will immediately notify the community when this important data is released and how its findings will help to inform the ongoing policy discussions both on Capitol Hill and within the Department of Education.
Focus of Second Research Report
The second research report will attempt to better understand the programs affected by the gainful employment regulations. The research, which has already begun, will explore how external factors impact the “earnings premium” metric with the aim of informing potential reforms to earnings-based accountability policies like the gainful employment rule.
Keynote Presentation of the Data
CSPEN is proud to announce that Jason Delisle has accepted our request to join us once again as a Keynote Speaker at CSPEN’s 7th Annual Higher Education Policy Meeting in February. By that time, Jason will be able to share information regarding the impact of the release of the first research report and the latest on how the data from the second research report is coming together.
You do not want to miss this highly anticipated presentation and the discussion of how our community can continue to use this, and other data, to seek equitable development of higher education policy.
