President-elect Trump Selects Transition-team Co-chair Linda McMahon to be Nominated as Secretary of Education
Overview
Over the past few weeks, there has been speculation and a considerable number of names suggested as nominees for all the cabinet leadership positions. With respect to the successor to current Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, the early names that were circulated included the like of former Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, State Superintendent Ryan Walters of Oklahoma, Tiffany Justice the co-founder of Moms for Liberty, and many, many more.
During last Thursday’s CSPEN webinar we highlighted a group of eleven, including the names above, and also added another name Commissioner Frank Edelblut, Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Education to the list of possible contenders.
Well, it appears the speculation is over, as just a little less than an hour ago, sources close to the President-elect and the media began confirming rumors from earlier today that former head of the Small Business Administration during former President Trump’s first administration is likely to be officially announced as the nominee as Secretary of Education very soon.
Background
As noted above, Ms. McMahon served the former and future President previously as the head of the Small Business Administration from 2016-2019. Most recently, the former executive of the World Wrestling Federation, has been serving as co-chair of Trump’s transition team, along with Howard Lutnick, head of brokerage and investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald. Trump announced today that Mr. Lutnick, like Ms. McMahon, has also been selected as a cabinet nominee – announcing his candidacy for Secretary of Commerce.
What’s Next
Unless changes are made, all cabinet level nominees will be called to testify before the Senate in confirmation hearings and voted to serve by a majority of the Senate.
