What Does The Most Recent Labor Projections Show, Which Occupations/Jobs Will Grow the Most Over the Next Eight to Ten Years

Overview
On Thursday, August 29th the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics published a plethora of new data with the release of the latest publication of the Occupational Outlook Handbook (www.bls.gov/ooh/home.htm). A major portion of the publication is the updating of many key labor data sets including things like, the highest paying jobs, projected fastest growing occupations, most projected new jobs, etc.

As part of this data, the Bureau also provides a “Career Outlook” (www.bls.gov/careeroutlook/2024/article/education-level-and-openings-2023-33.htm) – providing education level and projected openings between 2023-2033.

As noted in the summary of the Career Outlook landing page:

“BLS makes 10-year employment projections for more than 800 detailed occupations. Each occupation is assigned to the education level that’s typically required for workers to enter. This article highlights the occupations that BLS projects to have the most openings each year, on average, from 2023 to 2033 for five education levels:

  • No formal educational credential
  • High school diploma or the equivalent
  • Postsecondary education, but not a bachelor’s degree
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Graduate degree

Across all occupations, BLS projects more than 19 million openings each year, on average, from 2023 to 2033. Most openings come from the need to replace workers who leave permanently, either to exit the labor force or to transfer to a different occupation. But others are from employment growth: that is, newly created jobs.”

The site goes on to provide detailed charts and information with respect to each of the five education levels, with an emphasis on the jobs within these levels which will have the most openings each year and lots of supporting data.

CSPEN encourages you to take a look at this very useful information! We plan on making it the focus of next week’s CSPEN Federal Legislative & Regulatory Update webinar, and will provide a sneak peek on this Thursday’s webinar.

As a reminder, the primary focus of this week’s webinar will be the upcoming Master Calendar deadline for publication of the final rules related to the 2023-2024 Federal Negotiated Rulemaking and overview of the 2024 Presidential and Congressional elections – both less than a month away.
