On Tuesday evening, the House passed a budget to fund the government through September 30th.

The continuing resolution was passed by a vote of 217-213 and is an extension of the existing Congressional budget with a total reduction in spending of $7 billion dollars.

The House budget reduces overall funding for major WIOA programs by 2.7%, including: adult employment and training activities, youth activities, and dislocated worker employment and training activities.

The House budget reduces overall funding for secondary WIOA programs by 10.1%. These are programs that support Native Americans, Youthbuild, ex-offenders, migrant workers, National Apprenticeship Act expansion and the dislocated worker reserve.

Finally, the budget eliminates a minor secondary program that funds WIOA demonstration programs.

The House budget must pass the Senate to advance to the President’s desk. Given that the Senate process requires a sixty-vote majority to succeed, it is unclear whether the measure will pass in time to avoid a government shutdown on Friday, March 14th.
